Can you add vram to a gpu?

I was just curious if it would be possible, I know not in a conventional way like adding normal ram dems in but can you maybe solder memory on. I dont have any particular plans of doing this(but who knows ;) ) I was just curious if it would be possible.

I think you need more than just some solder and memory chips.

The board has to be made for it and the video card has to support it. Last off, I think the bios has to know about it.

Companies have run custom solutions with more memory than the standard version of a card so it can be done with the right hardware.

Totally agree with Nukemaster. Just because the pads are on the PCB, doesn't mean the card can use it. The same PCB can sometimes cover multiple VRAM chips, and those empty pads could have been from earlier runs using less dense chips to make up the full compliment of memory.
