So i got my bosses computer in my home shop. I dusted it out and did a fresh install of Windows 7 32-bit from the Vista that it had on it. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 530s. After installing Windows, the computer would not connect to either of my 2 routers. The green LED on the Ethernet port stays on and has another orange one blinking while NOTHING is plugged it... once i plug my cable in, ALL LEDs turn off... Please help. He needs his PC back for tomorrow and i am stuck. I tried driver installation again but there is no exclamation marks next to anything in the device manager.

Solution
I read two things on the dell site, if the driver is realtek then you may have a shot of updating it. This computer shows that it only supports XP nad Vista so this may be a large part of the problem. I did not see chipset updates for Win 7 in the updates area.

Go to the Dell site and try downloading the latest chipset for the MB of that unit and also find out who makes the ethernet port on the board and check their website for updates and troubleshooting ideas. If the ethernet was working before the new install then this is probably a driver/upddate issue. When you say fresh install did you reformat the hard drive? There also may be a bios update that deals with this type of issue.
