Only reason I'm asking is because I've seen newegg listing multiple z97 boards as "intel 5th gen support"
I thought z97 1150 was dead and skylake-broadwell were going to be new platform?

Skylake is a new socket ( LGA 1151 ) with new chipsets ( 1xx series ).
Broadwell will work with Z97 boards. New ones should support it out of the box and with a BIOS update for older boards. Z87 and earlier will not support Broadwell at all.
