Hey all,

I'm building a new PC at the moment and currently have the following parts that I want to get;

  • Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
    Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
    Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
    Powercool 650w Black PSU
    Asus GeForce GTX 780 3GB Direct CU II Video Card
    NZXT Phantom 410 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case

I'm a little stuck at the moment with what motherboard is compatible with all of the above and good for price-performance.

Could anyone please assist?

Much appreciated!

Try the ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard. It has four ram slots, can support a variety of ram types (DDR3-1066 / 1333 / 1600 / 1866 / 2133 / 2400 / 2800 / 2933), has USB 3.0, and supports SLI/Crossfire support. This motherboard isn't overkill, but it's not bad. It's good for your needs.

Are you in the USA?

The CPU has a locked multiplier, so you do not need a Z97 board for that. H97 is plenty good enough.
I doubt that you will SLI that GPU on that PSU, so you don't need a Z97 board for that either.

Something simple, like the ASRock H97 Pro4, whether ATX or mATX is good enough.

If you are not sure, and you move fast in the USA, Newegg is selling the ASRock Z97M OC Formula for $100. It's good for overclocking and good for SLI too, if you like/can stand the yellow/gold color. (I just bought one for a school system.)

I'd suggest the ASRock H97M ITX/ac, but it would look silly in your case. No, I'm no an ASRock fanboy. At many levels of the market they provide the best price/performance.
