Need to buy a keyboard for my new build. Stuck between the K70 and the K70 RGB. I like the upgrades they did on the RGB and I like the customizable LED lighting, but is it worth the extra $30-$40? I can get a K70 for $120 and an RGB for $150.

I've read that Corsair provided an update to the LED control software so all of the problems with the software are gone, still though I don't know, that's why Im asking you guys lol.

Thanks ahead of time for the advice and opinions

It was worth it to me. I just got the K70 RGB with the MX Red switches about 2 weeks ago. Best keyboard I have ever used. The key by key customizable lighting is great for gaming.

If you are in the US newegg has it for $140 with free shipping.

Edit: The problems people were having were fixed with the newest software/firmware update released at the end of April. I got mine and updated the firmware immediately so I can't say if the old version was buggy but the release I am using is rock solid.

well yeah, I think that it'd be cool to designate colors to certain keys when gaming, but is it worth the extra money? i don't know. I have been using an apple bluetooth wireless keyboard for the past 10 years, so I really don't have a clue.

@anort3
amazing deal and I am definitely going to take it. Thank You!

BUT.. before I do, regarding the cherry red keys vs. the brown ones? like I said, I've been using an apple slim keyboard for the past 10 years, would it be more normal of a switch to red or brown? Thanks.

I like the Reds myself with no bump but I use my desktop for gaming probably 75% of the time and if that was reversed I might choose the Browns.

The only Apple products I have used since the 1980s are iPods so I can't say how the Cherry switches compare to your keyboard now.

Thanks for the info, anort3, and the deal! Going to go to the local computer store tomorrow to try them out again before I make my decision. But i'll most likely be buying this when I get home. Thanks again!

That's your best bet is to try them in a store before you buy. Don't know how long that promo will last with newegg though. I paid $169 for mine 2 weeks ago but newegg had a deal where you get a $20 newegg gift card with it and I needed some case fans so I really only paid $149.

Glad to help :)

I have the same dilemma as OP. In practice - how can be RGB beneficial to my gaming? As owner of RGB mouse - I am afraid I will play with the lights first week and then just leave it to single color because other modes would be just distracting, after all human eye is most sensitive to brigtness/color change in peripheral view...

It's very useful if you like it to be fairly dark in the room when you are playing as I do and when you assign macros. You can literally map the keyboard any way you want with the Corsair software both with key functionality and lighting. I also have an M65 RGB mouse and to be honest I was sort of disappointed by the lighting on it but I don't feel the same about the K70 RGB at all.

I got back from the local computer store today and I'm really in a dilemma now. The cherry red keys almost feel "cheap" to me. Theres no resistance at all. The browns I think felt a little better but the blacks kind of felt the best. The blacks felt like the reds but with more resistance.

I'm wondering though, if I were just to go ahead and buy the K70 RGB with cherry reds, if I would get used to them and end up loving them. What a tough decision.

The RGB version has this Very ugly Tramp stamp of corsair Plus it got ugly white silicone around the keys that i really dislike

thats why i took the k70 Cherry brown Non RGB plus it has the original logo of corsair

i could not put that other logo on my work desk its too trampstampy to have on your desk for Clients.
