I currently have the ASRock z97 Extreme6/ac MOBO and I love it. I have a MSI GTX 660 ti PE GPU installed and the Samsung XP941 in the Ultra M.2 slot running my OS. I'm super happy but I recently found another identical GPU for cheap and wanted to set up SLI. However, according to this article, ASRock Z97 Extreme6, SLI can be enabled but with some drawbacks.

Some other articles out there say that SLI is disabled completely when the Ultra M.2 slot is inhabited. This article makes it feel as if the 2nd GPU will still be enabled, but with a loss of bandwidth.

My question is, if I install the 2nd card, even if it only has 50% bandwidth capacity, will I still see an improvement? Or, will it steal bandwidth from the 1st card (or from the UM.2 slot) and cause a performance loss?

Should I install the 2nd GPU or no?

Correct sli would likely be disable with m.2 slot occupied. All non x99 platform processors are limited to 16 PCIE lanes. Meaning that Nvidia requires 8/8 in sli and having will m2 slot eat up needed lanes for SLI. To paraphrase, m2 will disable sli unless you have a 5820k or better.

So, just to be clear, because I only have 4 lanes left the 2nd GPU simply will not work? It will not even function at 50%?
