Hi,

Just fitted a new power supply and graphics card.the problem I have is I play a game for 30 seconds through Steam and the PC crashes to the Windows safe mode"MS-DOS style screen. the PC doesn't seem to totally power off as the blue LED power light stays on .

Checked device manager and GPU is working fine(apparently) and all drivers are up to date

PSU is Corsair cx600
GPU is ASUS GTX 750 ti

Windows 7 64 bit
AMD A10-6800k APU 4.4ghz
Directx 11

games don't play long enough to get any heat generated.

I paired these as the PSU more than meets the minimum requirements of 20amp-12v and minimum 400w power of the gpu.????

some research I did seems to say it could be a bad GPU?

HELPPPPP Pleeaase

if it helps Youtube Netflix etc all works fine.
if I put Skyrim settings on anything other than LOW it crashes :pfff:

Just tried updating my windows experience as it recognised new hardware installed and it also crashed it to the "start windows in safe mode"screen??

Solution
It's most likely the power supply dying, try underclocking your 750ti by 100mhz/100mhz and see if the crashing still occurs. It's most likely not the card though as the driver should just crash, not the whole PC, what does the screen say when it crashes? Look in event viewer and see if there are any details there. It could also be a fault with your Windows although it's more than likely the PSU.

Thanks Sergeant.

I convinced myself it was the GPU as the Corsair 600w is brand new and a quality product, anyway, fitted a replacement card and exactly the same happened as before. grr.

I load Steam then start the Game (with your recommendations for settings in GPU Tweak) and knocked the settings back to 'medium settings in the game menu,I still only got 30 seconds of game play.

The PC doesn't fully shut down but requires a restart, which brings me to the "Open window in safe-mode" or "Start windows normally?" in white writing on a black background.

Thanks for your help on this one.

Think you may be right suggesting the PSU..!!?? do you think its faulty or not beefy enough,(although it seems to meet more than the minimum requirements)?

Thanks Robert, I was always under the impression Corsair was a good make, although i'm not an expert on any PC matter hence being on here..!!

What series do you recommend instead of the CX?

Admirable

They're not complete garbage, but they're not the best either. They're actually really stable units that's capable of running 970's and 980's just fine, it's just that there are often better suited supplies in the same price range with better quality.

Try downloading Guru3D's driver sweeper and sweep all the drivers that start with Nvidia and ATI, and reinstall the latest drivers again.

I have a CX600M and a 970 and it was fine, the CX series aren't bad, they're not the best but they are good enough.
Your PSU could be faulty yes, but it's not because it's a CX, do you have a spare one to try?

Thank all for your assistance.

It was indeed the power supply,I swapped it out to a 750w corsair and it is playing great now.
Guess I will never know if the 600w was faulty or under powered, but I don't care now..!!..
