Whenever I start up my PC all temps are fine but after about 5-10 minutes the graphics card goes to ~55C and wont cool down. Also when this happens and I try to play a game the FPS is capped at around 20 which is basically unplayable.

The only way that I have found to fix this is to reinstall the driver but I need to do this every time I start up my computer which is annoying, and when I reinstall the driver the graphics card idles about 10C hotter than usual.

I have been looking around and can't find a permanent fix for this issue.

If anyone knows how to fix this it would be great if you could let me know, and if you need any other information then just ask.

(The card is a Gigabyte GTX 660 OC Windforce 2gb)

Thanks

I had a similar problem with my amd 7750 graphics card a couple of years ago. Have you serviced your graphics card recently? It looks like dust has been clogged up in heat sink area beneath your fan. Try cleaning it and temperature should be back to normal.

Thanks but I have cleaned out the heat sink about a week ago and that didn't help. It doesn't seem like a hardware issue to me because it only happens after about 10 minutes after boot and wont happen if I leave my computer on after I reinstall the driver (I have left it on for 3 days before to see what would happen).

Thanks for the replies and if my issue hasn't been fixed by next weeks I will try and reinstall windows.

My gtx 760 is idling at 51C right now....runs just fine though, so I don't see a problem with your idle temp. It is the summer time and it gets pretty hot, so this should be normal.
Are you experiencing any other problems with the card, like low power draw/usage? Or low gpu usage?

If you are just experiencing in game problems, it is likely a driver issue or a game issue. How many games does this happen with? And does your card support directx 11? You could try running the game in a lower directx version(if the game allows it)

All games, and my card does support directx11. I will try a manual clean installation for my driver and see if that helps.
