GTX 970 vs. HD 6970 (3DMark06?)

Hey I was looking (out of curiosity) at a comparison of the GTX 970 (which I plan on getting) vs. AMD's HD 6970 at this page http://
The only "advantage" of the 6970 is the 3DMark06 score.

Better 3DMark06 score 24,035 vs 15,071 Around 60% better 3DMark06 score

What is this and does it affect games? (only game I really care about is Skyrim).

Comparing scores on a 9 year old benchmark is bound to be wonky. I doubt Nvidia has ever tried to optimize the 970 to run on that benchmark. There are lots of reasons the score was low for the 970, one of which is simply that the benchmark is so easy, the 970 never reached full clocks.

Compare more current benchmarks and games for a comparison.
