I am trying to assist a Senior friend to transfer some of her special files with rare photos and files to her new Win 7 home premium Dell computer. Files will transfer but will now run.

As you said, programs will have to be installed. However, I do not want to install any programs. All I want to do is transfer some important photo files etc. to the new computer with win7home premium. I have tried hd docks, thumb drives, direct transfer cable etc. One thumb drive transferred to a folder and would bring up the files. When clicked on to run, nothing would happen! All files work fine in old computer with XP.

What kind of files, what is their extension? If they are such type that the other computer, has no program assosiated with, they will not open before such program is installed on the new computer. Windows 7 has inbuilt programs for common file types so they must be some other type.

The files are mostly from "Label Designer" I am not sure what type they are. This is a Dell computer she purchased couple years ago and just now having it installed. It doesn't have many programs to open different files with. I will know more next time I have a chance to continue with the problems. She is supposed to be getting all the information of the Label designer for me. I assume you are correct about the programs needed are not installed yet. I will keep this updated as time goes along. Thanks for your feedback.
