Hey all

not sure if this is an odd topic or not, I know a fair few people paint mobo heatsinks but what I'm thinking is a complete overhaul mainly for 1 reason, right now I have a GA-990XA-UD3 which is mainly fine, but the BIOS are terribly basic, I am planning on a system redo once the R9 390X is out as I have a 4K display and want to use it, but if they are a similar size to the 290X then they won't fit in my case, getting a HAF X, so was going to get a Crosshair Formula Z to go with it, awesome board, my only issue is once I have finished my student placement and have moved to a stable address with my techie mates a couple of miles away instead of 300, I want to do a hardpipe water loop, now my issue is once I do that, I will have the case on a desk so I can see it, I mean what's the point in putting that much effort into a loop and then hiding it? anyway, if/when I do this, I want to use mayhems nano fluid in blue, red board, blue fluid? not sure how it will look, I don't think nice though. so I either stick with the board I have, which I don't mind but the BIOS isn't great, get a Asus M5A99FX Pro R2 which is nicer BIOS wise, but isn't as good as the Formula Z or get the Formula and paint it? is that a thing people do, paint a whole board? I don't mean buy 1 can of spray paint and just go at it but if I take my time, tape everything off, would that work?

AMD 8350 CPU btw

Thanks in advance

Edit: just though I'd point out that when I say paint the whole board, I don't mean 100% coverage, I want to re spray everything that is red, everything that is black will stay black, everything that is shiny will stay shiny

the heat shielding I knew about, was more on about the PCI and RAM slots, and the processor choice was more because I already have it, but I am temped to get an i7 basically because they seem to have a larger board choice when it comes to colour option, and I have the 8350 not the 8320, which I get is still not as good as the high end intel but its slightly better.

I was actually looking at the 900D, as I use 4 5.25 bays, thinking I will get the HAF X while I air cool, then redo the case once I water cool, although the window in the HAF X isn't bad, especially if you remove that side fan, so for the painting, would you recommend a brush or a spray? either way I think I will put tape inside the slots regardless as I found 1 video on youtube of some1 painting a ROG board blue, worked fine but they needed a dead GPU and ram stick to clean the contacts as they painted those too
