My friend has a portable hard drive, which is what is stated in the title. It is extremely slow when it comes to transferring things, right now I'm moving a 900mb file and its said to take up to half an hour with 300-500kb transfer speeds.
However, I also have a Seagate portable drive, which is not the same model, and uses a different cord, and I get up to 20mb/s if I want to put things on it.
They also have two different cords, my one has a mini-B plug, while theirs has a USB 3.0 micro-B plug.

Get your friend to test his/her Expansion drive with SeaTools for Windows to diagnose any issues it may have:

Use the Long/Extended test option for more thorough testing (compared to the Short/Quick test).

Note: It's advisable to have the data backed up elsewhere before testing a storage device.

I've never lost any data by testing a drive but it is still a sensible precaution to have a backup of it's contents.

All it does now is flash, tried it on 3 devices (My PC, my Laptop, and my Xbox) and still just constant flashing. Tried Seagates tool not too long ago, all it picked up was my PC hard drive.
They're basically dead once they start flashing aren't they..
