Hello everyone.
It's time I really need to upgrade now as my Quad Core really feels laggy now and with the heavy games and all.

I want you guys to tell me whether I should go for the Haswell i3 or Sandy Bridge i5?

Core i3 + cheap motherboard(new) will cost me $170 in my country while the used i5 2400 + AsRock h61m/u3s3(used) will cost me $140.

Also it's possible that I save more money and wait till next month and buy Core i7 with the AsRock motherboard for $190 but remember, I need it for GAMING only. No other purpose.

Which one should I buy?

My main focus is on gaming. I currently have 7770 Graphics card but I will be upgrading to r9 280x in the future.

Is this i5 enough for like some time even? I'm a poor guy and I don't upgrade everyday.

Resolution for games: 1080p.

Also will I feel any difference by upgrading from Core 2 Quad to Core i5 with the same 7770 GPU?

Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Regards.

You'll get used to that on here. Most answers basically boil down to "buy newest shiny thing". The 2400 is the way to go. It will drive your 7770 and newer cards like 970s with no issue.

The top end i5 would be out of my range as I will have to buy a new motherboard with it.

Told you, I can't upgrade all the time. I've been using Core 2 Quad for like 8 years!

I guess the above mentioned are the only 2 options with me otherwise I would have gone for a high end i5...If I could.

Get the 2400. Sandy bridge is an excellent choice for gaming, also its a quad core. Don't listen to the guy telling you basically "just get more expensive parts". A 2400 will do will paired with high end cards.

Thank you so much, brother.
That really helped.

/off topic:

How is your Kingston V3 SSD working? I'm getting it in my country for $58 (Not USA).

So far so good. I'm using it as a storage drive for my one drive and google drive apps. Prior to that it was my boot drive and i had no issues with it at all.
