frame rate drops after turning on SLI

i have two gtx 970 zotac amp extreme core edition.i first started playing games with one gpu and it was fine and fps was almost 60 when playing FAR CRY 4 at ultra.but after adding the second gpu fps drops to 30-40.and when i opened GTA V the GPU usage automatically(i didn't change any settings) doubled up and now it almost eating up whole 8gb of vram. what should i do??i installed the latest driver but still no good
my cpu is i7-4790k and i have 8 gb ram

Latest Nvidia driver should have the right profile for those games. Make sure your power supply can handle the setup and GPUs aren't throttling back due to overheating. Use some logging software like HwInfo www.hwinfo.com to monitor your system (temps, GPU clock, PSU voltages). It's probably a software problem but check the hardware first just to exclude possible hardware problems.

tried everything.temp's were between 55-68 C while playing GTA V.psu should not be a problem bcz i have a seasonic m12 Bronze evo 850 watt psu.i tried each gpus in different slots individually and they worked fine and gave about 50-60 fps at max....again when i put them in sli fps drops to 35 and even 25 sometimes is GTA V in 1080p
