I was using it fine until it just wouldnt turn back on. On and off is all it does i have to kill the power switch in the PSU for it to stop. It was always running fine and now im getting fustrated with this issue. The time between the on and off is about a second or two, also sometimes it last about 10 secs then it freezes and shuts back off. I bought a new PSU then it did the same, i returned it and purchased a motherboard and it did the same issue, when i used the new mother board the PSU was also the old one. Should i get both new or would it be the CPU? Its a i7-4790k intel.
for those who ask i play Arma, total war and Battlefield

im not sure if i was overclocking, i have never edited the settings. also i was playing arma 3 in the afternoon when i lost connection so i shut off the computer. i didnt play till the next morning i tried turning it on and it started the automatic shutdown. i never have a chance to run bios. this happened around two weeks ago. every time i played it was for about average 4 hours. i dont have a cooling device for the cpu but it has the stock fan that came with the processor. here are my specs:
MSI gtx 970 4g graphic card
750W seagate psu
MSI z97 gaming 3 motherboard
intel i7- 4790k
2x8G RAM
1T WD HDD (mechanical)

i know this sounds ridiculous, but have you tried pulling the power cable and the cmos battery off of your mb for a few minutes and then trying again.

Aside from that try pulling everything off of your psu except a fan. jumper the 24 pin mobo connect and try to power the fan. if the fan spins your psu is working.

then plug in the mb but with no cards attached I.E. graphics, sound, usb port card, wifi card, and no hdd/ssd attached. does it boot?

if so start plugging things back in 1 at a time and starting it up. make sure when removing and adding things back that your power is off and unplugged from a power source.

This will help you to locate what the problem is and what your next step need be.

hey thanks for the reply!. i tried the first part of what you suggested by removing battery and disconnecting MB. After a few minutes it got me to bios and then it did a start up and it took me to windows screen then since its a new motherboard i began to install the drivers from the CD drive and in the middle of the driver installation it turned off. although i got that far im having a bit more hope on making it run. i was surprised on that it somewhat worked but it didnt give me the time i needed to system restore or to run diagnostics. can you still help? i was so exited about to use ur answer as a solution man.

if it is shutting down (not freezing) with little attached i am inclined to say it is not an overheating problem. it is more than likely (since your pc booted and got some ways in) your PSU. do you have another on hand that you can connect into your case without removing the original for a quick test?

If the second psu doesnt replicate the problem, then there is your answer.

I have tried that with a new psu but it didnt work, now that was before the new motherboard. Should i still get another psu cuz the one i bought to test i returned. Also it does freezes at some points while ive been on bios, the freezing part has increased more when i do get through to bios at the rare occasions. Could the case have a potetial effect? I mean by the power buttons, could it be causing it to restart?

freezing that early on, im assuming after a couple tries, sounds now like a heat issue. did you clean off and use new thermal paste on your cpu when you switched the mobo.... reason i ask is because you say you have a stock cooler.... which if not properly attached/thermal pasted is as good as not having one
