Hi,
I wasn't sure this is the right place to post this but I don't know what this is related to.. I did some re-search on the site but the few cases I found are not really the same.. And they have not resolved.. I know that this can be related to many components so I am pretty stressed about this...

I'm pretty sure it isn't because of OS. When appropriate time passes and all the screens go black I believe the OS is already shut down. Then when I hit the button, it shut downs very quickly. Also I don't have to hold my finger, just a touch and boom it goes..

I am updated in every aspect of the software exists in the machine, including the BIOS...

Probably not related but I also have 'sleep' issues. Even though I checked all the required boxes to turn off 'wake up service'; when ever I asked the PC go to sleep it comes back immediately, if I do it again then it complies. So I have to put it to sleep twice for it stay that way.. But this is an OS related issue so it couldn't be related to my main problem...
Yet here I am talking about it... :pt1cable:

Well you never know.. So I didn't want to leave it out...

The machine is working without any hiccup for a little more than a year now. And the problem started a couple of weeks ago and everything happens in the same fashion every time I try to shut it down...

right off the bat, thank you for, so much needed help to come..

my system:

OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit
CPU: Intel i73930k
MOBO: Asus P9X79 WS
VIDEO: Zotac GTX 680 4 GB
MEM: Corsair Vengeance (8x8) 64 Bit 1600MHz
PSU: Corsair AX1200i
CASE: Cooler Master Cosmos 2
DRIVERS: Corsair Force GT SSD 480GB + 8 x Seagate HDDs

Before jumping into the Windows configuration program, try this. Download "CCleaner" (the free version) and install it.
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
After install run it and the first thing up will be 'Cleaner,' on the menu in the left margin. I like to run "analyze" first but in your case maybe just click "Run Cleaner" and let it do its thing.
When finished click "Registry" in the left panel, have it 'scan for issues' then click 'Fix selected issues...' It will give you a chance to save the registry entries to your doc file and I recommend you do so. Then make sure all the entries shown are selected and have it 'Fix all selected issues.'

Try shutting down the PC. If you can shut down, then it is cured. If not then move...
Glad I'm not the only one that has their PC turn back on after putting it 'too sleep'. And I have tried my best to solve that but to no avail.
I'm using W7 so the file and programs may be named slightly differently, but go into your power settings (for W7 that Control Panel>Power Options). For whatever power plan you are using, and probably eventually for all of them, click "Change plan settings" then "Change advanced power settings". (Yes, I know you've been here before) Be sure to click near the top "Change setting that are currently unavailable" text. Scroll down and open the 'Power buttons and lid' portion, expand "Power button action" and make certain that under "Setting:" you have it set to Shut down.
Expand the "sleep" category and under 'Allow hybrid sleep' set it to "On//under 'Hibernate after' set it to "Never"//and under
'Allow wake timers' set it to "Disable" (I believe you already did that).
NOW, click "Apply" -- then OK.
See if that doesn't solve the main problem.
Hope that helps, and sorry if I have given info you have already tried. Please repost.

Thank you for coming so quickly..

Well everything was in order. Except, in Sleep/Allow wake timers was enabled for some reason because like you guested I had set that off, anyway I corrected that.. But I'm afraid I don't have 'Allow hybrid sleep' in the menu..
All I have in sleep are: 1- Sleep after 2- Hibernate after 3- Allow wake timers..

And also I remember (I don't know how, probably read here) canceling Hibernate all together.. Because it something to do with messing up the workstation flow...

I have not restarted the PC because I am rendering and can not disturb that but I will come with restart results. At least related to the sleep problem...

thank you

I think the Allow Wake timer thing gets changed when we do Windows updates; I have had to change it back to my setting several times. I assume you set the Hibernate After.... to 'never'.
Let us know what happens after the restart and moving forward; especially if it solves the main problem.

The 'sleep' issue has been corrected... I had installed lot's of OS updates so that's that...
The main problem is still on. An interesting note; when I shut down the computer using an application and apply an 'Auto Shutdown Protocol' it does shut down properly... Applications like Premiere Pro / Media Encoder with an Auto Shutdown PC after Encoding Done option or with Smart FTP and choose 'Turn of computer' after completion, or 'auto shutdown PC after rendering' with Blackburner in 3DS MAX...

That is confusingly interesting to me...

Just to see if it makes any difference: Go into the power section again and set the start menu power button to place your PC into 'sleep mode" when y ou press it. See if the PC will in fact go into sleep mode when the Windows shut down button is clicked.
If it does, then go back into the menu and change it to shut down when it is clicked and see if it works correctly.
I am hoping that this is not a hardware issue: since it will shut down when other software commands it to do so, it is starting to sound like a software conflict with one of your other programs.
Try the suggestion above; post what happens. I have to leave for an hour or two or three but will be back on a little later.

I'm sorry that I am not so prompt but have a really hectic schedule and I'm writing this away from the machine so I will comply as soon as I get home and post the results..
cheers

sound like you are as busy or more so then me. repost after working with the machine but there is no hurry on my end; you post myself and/or others will reply.

:) I'm dying here... It's hot, I am on location, haven't slept for two days and like 20 more hours to go!

Thank you for your generosity with your time by the way.. Because I know very well it is not something to be wasted at all...

Try to stay as cool as possible.

Hi again, apologize to not being so participant to my own thread.. Circumstances of demanding nature..

I am trying to stay cool it's just that the temperature was not so friendly..

So here are the results...

When I set the start menu power button to 'sleep mode" it did put the SYS to sleep, no problem.. But when I changed back the power button to "shut down mode" it did not comply...
Yet the third party software definitely dominates the power over what ever the reason it can not shut down.

The only confusion here that since I have a Rollback RX, I am reminded if I shut down the PC properly or not each time I fire up the OS.. And yes you guest right, it doesn't warn me about any bad shut downs.. That alone means that OS shut downs properly.. And the fact that one little brief touch is adequate to kill the power also suggest that the OS is not hanging on to or by anything...

So that's where I am at the present time..
cheers

Try shutting down the PC. If you can shut down, then it is cured. If not then move on to my next suggestion.

Time to try MSConfigure or MSConfig.
In the search box type in msconfig . I recommend you right click the result of the search and run it as administrator.
Once that opens the msconfig file, click on 'selective start up'.
Now click on the "startup" tab at the top.
This is a good starting point. Disable anything and everything that you cannot positively as necessary.
Click "apply" then "o.k." and it will then ask you to restart. Go ahead and do that.
BTW we may be coming back to this program.
Once the PC has rebooted, try to shut it down. If you successfully shut it down, you can discover which program is the causing the problem by going back to 'msconfig' and re-enabling one program at a time.
If it doesn't successfully and properly shut down, then you will need to do a little more work in 'msconfig' with the "services tab."
Here's a link that may help.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-system-configuration#1TC=windows-8
Also, I have a feeling that RollbackRX might be the problem as W8.1 already has a restore program built in and they may be competing for resources at shut down; just a thought.

msconfig found the faulty application Logitech download assistant!!!
I reinstalled it and it fixed the problem.. Thanks a lot...

BUY THE WAY

I usually want the monitors (x3) off and I found a little free application that does just that...
DEXSOFT Monitor Off utility...

I highly recommend it...

Great! Glad it is now working how you want it. I, too, have had some issues with Logitech software; I love their hardware, but their programming is not that great.
Merry Christmas.
