HI, were trying to get better wifi signal in our small shop that's about 75-90 feet from the house front door. The modem and router is hooked up to the house computer near the front door. Trying to find out what are my best options. The modem is a Sudden Link telephony modem and the wireless router hooked up to it is an Apple Express Base Station. Any help would be really appreciated. Some more info: using a Alfa usb antenna and in its software it says the signal strength varies from 50-58% and link quality 100% but the speed really varies from 7mbps to 29mbps.

How big is the biquad antenna you made and how much did it cost? saw some from a google search for sale on ebay.

its really quite small--roughly 5 inches square

only cost me a few pounds to make i already had a bit of copper plate handy

can also use aluminium plate i think

then i mounted it on a cheap £1 camera tripod

made a huge difference to my signal

This is the Alfa antenna I have. Would making or buying a biquad antenna help increase the signal strength? And would the antenna have to plug in the wireless router or my laptop in the shop?

the biquad goes on the usb adapter in the shop and could actually use 2 on that adapter though i seriously doubt you would need more than one biquad

that adapter is 5db the biquad is much more--and can also make a double biquad using a bigger sheet of copper

have seen people in really remote areas put biquads on satellite dishes to get wireless over miles of range

How good of a signal strength and link quality do you get with it and how far are you from the wifi source?

i made it when i lived in a victorian building as the walls were all brick no plasterboard or sheetrock i think its called in america

and couldnt get more than 2 bars with the standard aerial that came with the usb adaptor

with the biquad i got 5 bars--also went from seeing 20 neighbours wifi to 90 of them

furthest i tried it was the local hotels free wifi--about 400 yards away--got 3 bars and an acceptable link quality for web browsing
