Amd 8320 and asus m5a99fx overclocked to 4.0 ghz running a coolermaster 212 hyper evo

i have been monitoring cpu temps using HWmontior , and after overclocking , found that my motherboard cpu temps are reaching 70c , while my cpu core is at 48c after running prime95 for 28 minutes. i have a NZXT 4110 phantom with all the stock fans , could it be that i am not getting good airflow? also , what is the maximum temp. for the socket?

Exactly which "motherboard temp" are you reading? If it is the chipset, it is fine. If that is the socket temp, that could be normal. Socket temp doesn't matter and isn't always accurate. Some of my boards show high socket temps and safe core temps too.

First off, what software are you using to check temps? Most of us users use HWMonitor. Free version http://www.cpuid.com/ . Now as a rule of thumb the package temp should not exceed 65C, and the Socket temp should not exceed 70C. With this board and CPU alot of use FX 8XXX series have been running a small fan on the backside of the CPU socket to help with the socket temps. I own this board and the 8320 and under WC my difference has been around 10c higher on the socket then the package temps at full load.
