my specs are
I5 4440
2x4 DDR3 1333MHz
R9 290 Royalking from Club 3D

i used the windows defrag. the partition where my gta is installed on says the following :

So, you just analyzed? You did not run the Defrag which will take hours to do, so you should know. I use Defraggler from Piriform its quite a bit faster completely free and safe from their site. 70% fragmented is the most I have ever heard of in my personal experience. I think the highest I've ever seen was 22%.

I doubt if defragging your drive will make much of, if any, difference if you're getting serious lag during gameplay. The map/level would have already been loaded.

I'm thinking you probably have too many background processes/jobs running on your computer. You should install a 3rd Party Startup Manager to give you a complete listing of what's starting up with Windows and uncheck some of the items you don't need running at boot. Stuff like Skype, Yahoo Messenger, Spotify, Roxio, Printer Software... are all defaulted pre-load or start every time you boot. I prefer to do that manually.

Do you have an AV installed? I've learned that's one main thing that can cause serious lag. Some people will disagree with me.... but unless you're extremely careless or constantly downloading and installing free programs and games or visiting adult websites all the time.. You don't really need to keep an AV program "active protection" on. On my system, I have it installed but turned off Real-Time Protection... however, I still have it perform automatic weekly scans and run one manually every few days.. and haven't had any problems for years. One thing I also do is.. since I have three drives on my computer, I exclude the other two drives from scanning.. that helps to optimize the AV for speed.

Okay but wat does IT mean 70% the bad part is that my Windows is like a month old. And my hdd is like 8 months old

Hi there vinootje,

I'm sorry that you are facing some issues with your drive. :(

What is your OS? In case it is 8/8.1, then you can disable several Windows Services: Windows Search, Superfetch, BITS. This seems to sort the 100% disk usage issue most of the times.
Another thing you should do is to test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool. The results will show the overall health status of the drive. In case there is something wrong with it, I would advise you to back up the data as soon as possible.
Also, it will not hurt change the cables(both power and SATA one) as well as connect the drive to a different SATA port.

Let me know how this goes,
