portable hard drive become local disk

Hi is there anyway to change my portable hard drive from primary to removable.. some how about a week ago it just changed to primary.. now it wont show up when i plug it in and doesn't show in computer but can open it through computer management.. i don't want to loose anything on it so dont want to re format if possible....

You should never keep important data on only one hard drive, you need at least two, with the same data on both.

Hi phillip, i read though the link u sent to me.. couldn't really find and answer except that its dying and get a new one lol.. its not as a raw file its as a primary drive and says active.. so reformatting would sort it ?

You can run Disk Check and see whether this will help: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html
Another thing you can do is to test the drive with some HDD testing tool. The results will eventually show what is wrong with it.
Connecting the drive with another cable will not hurt as well.
