The PC - https://pcpartpicker.com/user/samwow412/saved/#view=VCdcCJ

I'm trying to build a family computer for our living room.

It needs to play games like minecraft 60fps+ and stream youtube 1080p perfectly.

It's mainly going to be used for normal web browsing and light games minecraft/sims stuff like that.

Is it too much? I tried to get parts that would make it last for a long time, semi future proof, but also needed to keep the budget low as my family doesn't really need a "Gaming PC"

Any advice on any the parts that could be cheaper, and still meet our needs.

Thanks for helping!

Your choice of motherboard is incorrect for the i5-4690K. If you want to use the H81 chipset there is no point on using the the 'k' series of CPU. Instead go with an i5-4690 non-k model and save a few dollars.

Otherwise keep the i5-4690k and get a Z97 chipset if you plan to eventually overclock. The main reason for getting the k series is so you can overclock.

Is there a better intel based CPU you'd recommend for this build that's more in the 100-150 dollar range?

Why that one over the H81M?

here is how i would build your pc.

It's about $60 more, but it is made with better parts, and i think will meet your family's needs a bit better

That looks pretty nice, I completely forgot about getting a SSD to boot from, would the i3 dual core be decent enough, especially if I were to get a 960 gtx?

I've always been an Intel / Nvidia fan, why would a 750ti not been good for intel?

I think the i3 is your best for your budget. The 960 is a much better graphics card then the 750. Plus if you ever do need to upgrade the CPU you will have plenty of options with the i5 or even i7 should your budget allow for it in the future.

yep. an i3 is enough for minecraft and many modern games. now if you want to play crysis3... well then we're getting into a different class of computer build then a simple "family" computer designed to watch youtube videos and play minecraft.

Well, you call this a family pc
but it looks like is not only the family pc, also the game pc
you may not need h97. but you can upgrade your mb to B85
and I will call, if you do want to have a good pc for few years,
at least get up to i5-4460 cpu
for the motherboard, your can try msi b85 g43 motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130700&cm_re=msi_b85-_-13-130-700-_-Product

and all base on your budget, your may looking for a gaming pc, not only the family pc
so may upgrade to h97 if need and get budget
msi h97 gaming 3

If the PC I build streams 1080p videos flawlessly and runs minecraft at 60+ on high then it will be perfect,.

I don't think I need a 960 GTX for that, whats like the cheapest nvidia card that could do this?

Last question and thanks for all the help guys.

Will this MOBO I have picked out screw into the case right? How do you know if the mobo is the right size for the tower, are they all the same dimensions?
