Hi.

I have a USB 3.0 external hard drive and turn off the PC when the hard disk runs in stand bye mode. This is because USB 3.0 ports still receive energy.

I tried it with the BIOS option "On / Off Play" but not working. and this board does not have the header PS2_USB_PWR1

Please, as I can make USB 3.0 is off when I shut down the PC ???

Thank you.

The USB ports on modern motherboards still receive power when PC is off by design. That's so that devices like mobile phones etc which everyone has these days can be charged up without having to have the PC running.

The feature can be disabled in the power options BIOS page on some but by no means all motherboards.

It's no big deal, I leave my USB ports "live" all the time, doesn't do any harm so why worry about it?

Incidentally, I also have a recent model ASROCK mobo and there's no BIOS option to kill the USB ports when PC is shut down. It's of no concern to me, I've got more important matters to worry about.

If it really bugs you for some strange reason, flip the switch on the PSU or the power outlet after you've shut down.

Of course you won't want to do that when PC is in standby mode, so just pull the power or USB plug from the back of your external hard drive. But you should know that the drive isn't actually running anyway when PC is in standby mode, so it's not wearing out your drive if that's what you're worried about.

In Device Manager check your USB 3.0 Hub settings:

I have Asrock z370 pro 4 and if you want to turn off the USB when your pc shuts down check if you can find under the chipset configuration the Deep Sleep mode. Turn it on and you pc will completely shut down instead of keep sending power to your USB devices.
