The Lenovo y500 specs are:

Intel Core i7-3630QM (2.4 - 3.4 GHz, 6MB )
8GB (2x 4096MB) - DDR3,
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 2GB GDDR5
1TB SATA (5400 rpm)
15.6 - 1920x1080 (Full HD)

and Lenovo y580 specs are:
Intel Core i7-3630QM (2.4 - 3.4 GHz, 6MB)
8GB (2x 4096MB) - DDR3
NVidia GeForce GTX660M 2GB DDR5
1TB SATA (5400 rpm)
15.6 - 1366x768 LED

I cant really decide which one to take. I am not sure if I will be able to find another gt650m for y500 if I decide to upgrade later, because right now I cant find new one in any shop i check in my country (Bulgaria). I cant find one second hand too. So will it be better to go with gt660m for it is better or take 650m and hope I can find another one later. Also will appreciate any pros and cons for those laptops.

EDIT: I think I chose the wrong section for the thread.

Solution
Put simply, the GTX 660M will give you better performance, but you will have to play at a lower resolution (not sure why Lenovo paired a gaming grade discrete GPU with a 720p screen). Whereas the 650M won't be as powerful, but allows you to play at full HD. You decide what's more important to you.

Best of luck!

Well I am not a hardcore gamer, mostly I play CS:GO and Tomb Raider from time to time, tho I am looking forward to playing Mad Max when its out. I am studying programming and will the 1080p monitor be better for that and in general.

Yes, if you are going into programming then definetly get the 1080p screen as the more pixels makes a huge difference when writing lots of lines of code.

An alternative is to get an external monitor and plug it into the laptop of the y580 and you will be able to play games at 1080p from the external monitor rather than the internal screen.

The choice is yours.

Glad to hear it! Hope it works out well for you in the long run. You should choose a best answer and close this thread out when you get a chance.

Cheers!
