Greetings TH,

I come asking you all a question since you've so graciously helped me over the years with ongoing answered and I have yet since registered.

I currently have a finished build (specs below) that's giving me a bit of trouble with using 32GB of RAM. I've searched high and low on the forums with people with similar boards, issues and solutions, but it seems I am still stuck.

The Build:
Intel Core i7 4790k 4.0 Ghz (http://tinyurl.com/l5d36yy)
Asus z97 Pro (Wifi ac) / USB 3.1 (http://tinyurl.com/l2btl3n)
PNY XLR8 DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 (http://tinyurl.com/n4lfgp6)
PNY 480Gb SSD (http://tinyurl.com/l78fvcg)
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB (http://tinyurl.com/ldn49v9)
Corsair 760w PSU (http://tinyurl.com/l9ttv3k)
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Edition

*Before you tell me "32GB for what?" - I do a lot of Video Editing / Creation + Photo Editing, Rendering & Illustration as well as game on my rigs. The ram just helps me on all occasions and stand points. It's a lot, but I use it. Trust me.*

My Problem:
Upon installing all the drivers, updates and getting the computer up to par with 1 stick of 8Gb, everything was fine. The clock for the ram at that time was the suggested 1600. After all the updates were accounted for, I shut down everything and installed a second stick. No problem there. Booted just fine under 16Gbs.

After that, I installed the remaining 2 sticks for the 32gb total to boot just fine for THAT time only. After, upon restarting it gave me the post loop and wouldn't post until I used the MEMOK function. Once I got into the bios again, I down clocked the ram to 1333 and it posted just fine. Back into the OS we went and everything was golden.

I went to sleep, woke up the next morning, tried to boot and got the loop again. MEMOK'd and put the speed BACK up to 1600 and it posted just fine! (lolwut at this point).

My Remedies:
• Reseated RAM. Tried Recommended Module placement as dictated in user manual.
• Checked MSCONFIG to ensure that 'Max Memory' was unchecked.
• Tried both settings of Standard/Default, as well as X.M.P. profiling to keep ram at suggested 1600
• RAM sticks work just fine in my other rig - all 4 sticks are working just fine under 1333 and 1600
• Computer works 100% at 8gb & 16gb - It's when you install 24gbs+ that the issue occurs.

I'm looking to see if anyone else seems to be having/had this issue in the past or if anyone might be able to shed some light on the issue for me. Any thoughts, suggestions and links would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all. Enjoy your day and Cheers!~

Solution
Hey Guys - Just wanted to update the post with my turn out.

No bent pins, no bad ram sticks. The end issue ended up being the 4th DIMM slot on the mobo. I took it back to the store from where it was purchased and they did an even exchange for the same thing. Popped in the new board and 0 issues. Clean as a whistle.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. Just had a faulty board. Cheers!~

Problem is probably from mixing individual sticks, should always get the full amount of DRAM in a single package, that way they were tested to all play nice, with individual sticks there are no guarantees (yes, even with the same exact model, you can pull consecutive sticks off the assembly line and they might not play) - could try raising DRAM and/or MC (memory controller) voltage to see if it will help them (maybe up to + 0.075 on each)

I'll give this one a whirl when I head home. I've tried cycling all the RAM out and paired them with each other of the 4 and they do well no mater what set of 1 or 2 I put in. It's only when I pop in the 3rd stick that they start to get funky.

But as you said, I'll tweak those settings you mentioned and see if I can get a stable turn out. Just want something thats going to boot each time and not run into a loop when it feels like.

What should the voltage look like then for each slot? like the total amount.

So, for the most part, after work the RAM seems to be doing fine without any changes. I booted up no problem with 32gbs after work and didn't run into any issues like my first post. Weird if you ask me, but I'm going to closely monitor everything and post if anything changes.

First thing I'll most likely do if it post loops again is test your method @Tradesman1 - Thanks again guys. I'll update if needed. Cheers.

Hey again TH. Just wanted to update the post with some tests and results.

First, thanks for the quick reply and such. I have what I fear to be a faulty DIMM slot on the board itself. I tested each and every stick in the first 3 slots no problem. Each posted fine and showed 1600 1.5v in the BIOS. It's when getting to the last slot that the issues begin.

Installing 1 stick in the final DIMM slot will not post. It post loops or give me a "55" error. No Memory Installed. Even if there is another stick inserted into the board. I'll be speaking with Asus in the morning on getting an RMA to the local store in which the board was purchased.

Thanks again for your help. I'll update if I get a new board with the results if all goes well.
