Hi,
I have an HP 630 laptop which I want to upgrade. So I have ordered the SSD, but I have doubt regarding RAM. This laptop has a built-in 4GB DDr3 1333 Mhz RAM, and an extra slot is available (maximum total memory: 8GB).

So can I replace the default RAM with 2 x 1600Mhz DDR3 4GB RAMs?
Will it run at 1600Mhz, 133Mhz, or will the BIOS even detect it?

My CPU: Core i3 370m @ 2.40 GhZ

Solution
Notebooks are usually picky about RAM, but provided you got two DDR3 SODIMM modules, it should in most cases work AT LEAST at 1333MHz - whether or not it will go higher depends on the motherboard chipset and BIOS support. The most guaranteed thing to work is getting one more stick exactly the same as already installed. If you can still find that particular model, that is.

That's why it is called DDR (double data rate). This means that memory transfers data on both the rising and falling edges of the clock signal. For example, if base clock speed is 666.666 MHz, you get double, thus 1333 MHz effective clock, while 800 MHz x 2 = 1600. It is just how this memory works.

This is the RAM I have preinstalled on my laptop: Samsung m471b5273dh0-ch9 DRAM SODIMM
CL9
DDR3-1333 / PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM SO-DIMM
1.5V
Source of the data: HwInfo64

So should I add a 4 GB RAM with the same specs to the 2nd slot or replace the existing Samsung RAM too?
