Should I upgrade my low-end pc's GPU or CPU first?

My PC has the following specs:
GPU: GTX 750ti oc
CPU: FX-6300
Memory: 8gB ddr3

I was wondering what would give me a greater boost in FPS since I can't upgrade to both right away, should I upgrade to a GTX 970 (considering the bottleneck I'll get from the fx-6300) or should I upgade to an Intel i5 4590? (I know I'll have to switch my motherboard). Thanks for the help!

The GTX 970 will get you a bigger boost of course, since the GTX 750ti will perform the same with the FX6300 or an I5.

The FX causing a bottleneck on the GTX 970 peformance really depends on what game and how much of an overclock you achieved on the FX. Comparing to an i5 some games will perform the same or even better with the FX (more gpu intensive or perform better on more cpu cores), some games will depend more on the cpu power. Usually the i5 will perform better though.

The 6300 is still a fine cpu. If you have a decent 970 or 990 board, good case airflow and a decent cpu cooler 4.5 GHz on all six cores is easily attainable usually with a moderate boost in vcore.
