I have a 1TB HDD with all of my steam games, programs, and everything else on it, including windows 8.1. I want to get just windows 8.1 on my SSD to use as the boot drive. I obviously cant copy everything over. I do have the product key and the install disc. How can I go about installing windows onto the SSD but removing just the windows part from my HDD so i can keep all my games. I dont really want to have to reinstall all of my steam games or move them. I just want the windows files off of the HDD. Thanks in advanced!

I want to get just windows 8.1 on my SSD to use as the boot drive.
There is only one application I am aware of that purports to move 'only the OS' to a new drive.
Paragon Migrate - http://www.paragon-software.com/technologies/components/migrate-OS-to-SSD/
Not free, and reported results are very spotty.

You have only 2 real options:

1. Migrate the whole thing to the new SSD. Obviously that won't work if your current data is larger than the SSD.

2. Fresh install on the new SSD.
This also involves reinstall all your applications.

Your Steam games are probably OK without redownloading/reinstalling. See this:

Why would I need to reset the BIOS? I can change the boot drive...
Also, would I need to re install all of my programs if they are still on my HDD?

USAFRet beat me to your questions, and thank you for your service protecting our Country,..

Trying to transfer your OP system from one hard drive to another can open up a can of worms and since you have the disk and key you are better off just doing a fresh install,.When I said reset the BIOs I just meant changing the boot priority at start up to the SSD,..I have a 120 GB SSD on one of my gaming system and it was 35% full just after installing my Windows 7 and all the updates and applications so there is no way I could transfer over all my games to that SSD,..
It didn't effect my Steam games at all .
