On Board GFX works, new card does not

I have a question for everyone...
Alright, so I am a first time PC builder, but I have a friend that is helping me that has done it before. We are having some issues. I have a Gigabyte GA-z97x-SLI mobo and I am trying to install my Gigabyte Geoforce GTX 960 4gb card. When I try to boot it with the card installed, nothing comes on the screen. When I unplug the card and boot, it boots find with the onboard graphics. What could be the issue? I am running a 600w PSU if that could be a problem. I also reset it by removing the mobo battery and then reseating it after 5 minutes. Thank you guys.

I assume that the monitor is connected to the graphics card (not the onboard) and the card has the PCIe power cables connected.

The card has both the 6 pin and the 6+2 pin cables connected.

The thing is, the monitor wouldn't show anything regardless if it was connected to the graphics card, or directly to the board.

Try moving the card to the second PCIe slot. If still no go, try testing the card in your friend's PC, to make sure that it does work.
