Yes, I hate dealing with old computers because of the previous posts I made, but I have a relative with the Dell Dimension E520. Now, there are 2 types of E520s: The E520 with a Core 2 Duo, and the E520 with the Pentium D, in which I have the Pentium D. What I want to know is what Pentium D type is it; is it a 990, 850, etc. and what socket type it is.

The main reason I'm asking this is because my relative's computer has Windows, though it's corrupt and he's using Linux, which means I can't get CPU-Z. I looked at all the alternatives for CPU-Z for Linux, but they were not detailed enough, or I just couldn't install them.

The Dell Dimension E520 seems to come with many variations of Pentium D like Pentium D 915 / Pentium D 925 etc (there could be more). In either case the Socket is the same PLGA775.

If you want a CPU-Z alternative in Linux, try these:
CPU-G & I-NEX excellent alternative to CPU-Z for linux.

With Bios update to 2.4 you can use any of the following.

The following is a list of supported processors using Bios update 2.4, That Unit also shipped with a combination of any of the following.

Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz $35 EBAY
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz $21 EBAY
E6400, 2.13G
E6700, 2.66G
E6300, 1.86G
E6600, 2.4G
Prescott P4, 541, 3.2G
Prescott P4, 524, 3.06G
Prescott Celeron, 351
Prescott Celeron, 346
Prescott Celeron, 336
Prescott P4, 531, 3.0G
Presler P4, 940, 3.2G
Presler P4, 945, 3.4G
Presler P4, 930, 3.0G
Presler P4, 925, 3.0G
Presler P4, 950, 3.4G
Cedar Mill, 661, 3.6G
Cedar Mill, 651, 3.4G
Cedar Mill, 641, 3.2G
Cedar Mill, 631, 3.0G

CPU-G does the job for me, I-Nex is suppose to be a CPU-Z clone but I always had issues with it crashing. You can install CPU-G in Ubuntu or Mint using the following commands in Terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cpug-devs/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cpu-g
