So my USB 3.0 port stop from working. Whenever I connect my external Hard drive its say 'this USB drive can transfer faster if you connect it to USB 3.0 port.' I try using the external HDD on my friend's computer and it works just fine. So my question, is it hardware problem of software/driver problem and how do I confirm it?

To clarify, the USB3.0 port still working as 2.0 port I think because I can still transfer my files and use the port for my game controller etc. Howevev, my PC won't recognise it as USB 3.0 port when using a dedicated 3.0 devices.

Hi there aizuddin1710,

Do you have other USB 3.0 ports on your system? If you do, you can try attaching the drive over there. You can use another cable as well. In case you get the same error message, then most probably the issue you are facing is driver related. You can just go to your MOBO's website and download the latest 3.0 drivers.

Hope this will help,

I only have 2 USB 3.0 ports both from my motherboard IO and both are not recognized as USB 3.0 port. So, do I need to uninstall the old driver first and just proceed with installing the newer ones? I will look for the new driver in the mean time.

Ok so I cannot find the model of my motherboard but I found the cd that comes with the drivers. So, I went ahead and re-install Intel USB 3.0 driver and restart my computer. Once that done, my computer finally recognize my external HDD as USB 3.0 device and work perfectly fine. Thanks you for the answers.
