Windows 7 on External HDD on old pc not working

Hey,
I have an old PC with a p4s5a/dx+ mobtheboard from ECS.. I installed Windows 7 on a 500GB Verbatim external HDD. On a newer PC it boots but on the old PC, it hangs before getting to the bootmenu or booting, hangs after listing the devices. It's a BIOS crash I think. When the hard disk is formatted via diskpart and blank, it boots past the BIOS with it connected. Any clues?

Why would you expect a Win 7 install, on an external drive, for a whole different PC....to work with a new PC?

How, specifically, did you get the OS installed on the external drive?

Moving internal drives with an existing OS is an iffy proposition. Doing it with an external adds a whole other level of potential fail.

I used wintousb to install it. I checked if it worked by installing it, trying it on the newer PC and them formatting it and reinstalling.

It fails on the old P4 machine? Does that have the ability to boot from USB?

But generally, moving a drive with installed OS between machines often does not work. The farther apart the hardware, the less likely it is to work.

It has the ability to boot from USB. Yes, it fails on the p4 PC. It is supported as per minimum system requirements. It doesn't get past the BIOS when the HDD is connected though..
