Hello. Kind of a beginner level question. I want to build an average game pc, with a 4460 cpu, no ssd or other extras. Was wondering:

1. Does asus h97-plus run Haswell Refresh (4460) out of the box? No flashes required?
2. Is there a difference in online game pings/install & performance between h97-plus and h97-pro (the Realtek® 8111GR vs the Intel® I218V lan cards?)
3. The asus h97-plus one is cheaper and with less extras, hence leaning towards it, so can any owner say if it handles well?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Solution
1)Yes,it does support it out of the box.
2)There won't be any difference 99% of the time.
3)I dont personally own the h97-plus,but from what I've heard it is a very good motherboard.

GL Building :)

Ok, thank you. Still a bit hyped about some ppl saying that the Intel I218V lan card on other motherboards is better than the Realtek here, but oh well... it should be ok for just gaming, right?

I currently have a H97-Pro, with that same CPU. There's not really *that* much difference between the Pro and Plus, but if they're around the same price I'd go for the Pro. It's got a slightly better audio codec, more phases in the VRM design (6 phase vs 4 phase, though this probably won't make much difference with a 4460), and it comes with a Q-connector as well. This is basically an intermediate connector between all of the front panel cables and the motherboard pins, it makes things a lot easier to plug in.
The H97-Pro also has an extra fan header, so I'd consider this as well if you'll be using more than two fans.

So the differences are all fairly minor, but if the Pro isn't that much more than the Plus (I found the Pro to be a bit cheaper on Amazon when I bought it), go for the Pro.

Thanks, Mattib 050, but I'm not well-versed in computers, so not sure what "VRAM phases" means... is it some electricity support for the video integrated ram or? Anyway, I plan to use 1x video (no crossfire etc), also won't be using the expansion pci slots.

The think that bothers me is the different lan card. Do you think the Realtek one that goes with h97-plus is equal to the Intel one in -pro? Just for average gaming use, nothing fancy.

VRM stands for voltage regulator module, it basically handles converting one voltage from the power supply into another for the CPU to be able to use. More phases just means less stress is put on each phase, so it'll be likely to last longer. It's mainly useful for overclocking, so isn't as useful in this case, but still nice to have.

You probably won't notice any difference between the different lan controllers.
