Hello! I am going off to college soon to start my training in Computer Engineering.
My college suggests that I obtain a laptop with the following specs.

  • -Core i7 Processor
    -8 GB RAM
-DirectX Compatible Video with 512 MB of RAM
    -500 GB Internal HDD
    -Windows 8 Pro

I'm having trouble finding a laptop with a dedicated video card. Of course I left out the obvious such as "Laptop or equivalent" and "Wireless Capability." Could anyone help me locate such a computer? or if there is something you could share with me that would be fantastic! I am trying to have a budget of around $1000. The deadline for this is a while away so feel free to let me know.

Thanks a lot,
Dillon

Personally I would wait for sailes to kick in as you are in no rush. Also newer models will be availble which will be a lot faster than the older ones and the older ones will be heavily discounted.
I would recommend based on the specs you have given me to look for a laptop with an i7 and and igpu as I don't think you will need a dgpu. Unless you will be doing cad work as part of the course or if you plan to game on the laptop I would not bother searching for a dgpu.

I agree with this one it will serve you well on your studies. If you are able to wait for the back to school sales you will be able to get it even cheaper. Just remember to clear out all the crap ware as soon as you get it.
