Hello guys,
So I have this old HP pavilion that a friend asked me to give a little upgrade, knowing that its for simple task like email, internet access...
To reduce cost, he plan to keep the original case, optical drives (IDE connexion).
I was thinking to go to with this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hkjtdC, but only after i realised the missing IDE connector for the optical drives.
So do you have any sugestions for motherboard/cpu? or some kind of adapter to SATA?
Thanks!

IDE are like, super-dino-grandma, but am not dissing it because they are old, it's because like the guy above says, to accommodate this item will adversely affect your other components and decision making.

Do you REALLY need an optical these days? Maybe not. Lots of stuff are online, vendors don't even bother to ship you a CD, they want you to download it. SATA CD/DVD drives are cheap, is the BR that may give you a pause.

Hello,
Yes, i'm aware of the limitations, and for my own rig, i dont have any kind on optical drive.
After all he will just keep it the way it is right now and running with the winXP on it...
I tried to convince him to change but it's kind hard to convince someone with 40 years old to change and upgrade his machine...:)

Thanks anyway for the answers...

Talk to the guy we conveyed the information to you. Don't tell him stuffs are old and need to be thrown out, tell him if he keeps this piece then he has to change this other piece blah-blah and will cost more. Everybody understand cost no matter the age.
