i have a r9 290 tri x overclocked to 1130 core voltage. I haven't messed with the memory yet. But when It's just idling it will go from 38% fan speed to 90% fan speed! why is it doing this? I have a custom fan profile but it's a straight line from 0 to 110 degress.

If I were you I would make sure that the card has the latest drivers (if it doesn't install those, if it does, reinstall the current ones) installed and check that your profile has nothing wrong in there, then check back.
