I'm fairly certain that SLI is not in the immediate plans.
But any selection of a component should account for "what might be next" down the road. Does it make sense to by a MoBo with one PCIE slot, a case with just one HD bay, a PSU 100 watts short of SLI capacity when there is a chance or even likelihood that 3 years from now ya might feel a bit constrained.
As for "fine" .... it's OK in BF4 .... but keep reading.
Looking at the numbers.....
I can't see paying an extra $210 (62%) for a 980 over a 970 for a 15% performance gain (ROI = 24%)
I can see paying an extra $110 (48%) for a 970 over a 960 for a 71% performance gain (ROI = 148%)
That's 5 times the ROI
I don't see how paying $460 for two 960s is "fine", when you can go 5% faster for $120 less. It's kinda like do I buy a 600 watt PSU for $70 or do I buy a 750 watter for $85 today ? The $15 investment today can save a $85 cost 18 months down the line if you find the rig just isn't cutting it any more..
The author of the article in your link doesn't think it's fine. Those are his words ("GTX 960 SLI is not just undone by its own shortcomings" .....GTX 970 offers close to 20 percent more performance per dollar than the GTX 960 SLI") from the article you linked to that I quoted above.
If CS:GO does what ya want it to do on a 960 and playing CS:GO is all you are going to do for the next 3 years, I got no issue with the 960. But of you are going to want to play any game that might come out in the next 24 months, I gotta go with the 970 gives you 20% more performance per dollar today than a 960 SLI upgrade.
