I'd like to learn how to build a computer, and I think I should start off somewhere low, like a weak, cheap build at about 100-200$. The new computer does not have to be extremely powerful or decent, at all. I just want it to work, by work means to be able to run without any errors. Can you guys recommend a build for my leaning purpose?

Thank you!

This is a really slim budget, and will be a challenge to pull off. You also would need to use Linux, which is free as a copy of windows is around $100.

No computer runs with zero errors!

Some options to consider:

- A raspberry pi

- Barebones kit

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=9733742&CatId=31

These can be a good deal, but not always the best components. You would need to add a copy of Windows which would put you above the $200 budget you mentioned.

This can be a good platform to learn computing basics on.

- HP Stream

http://www.amazon.com/HP-Stream-200-010-Mini-Desktop/dp/B00R7R1GWK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1432094414&sr=8-5&keywords=hp+desktop

This is a good deal as it has Windows loaded onto it, and comes with a mouse and keyboard. You would need a display, but this can be connected to an HDTV.

Yes.

Case & Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G28M5732

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132042R

Processor (CPU): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302

Memory (RAM): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148657

Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487091

Hard Drive Storage: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236624

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009316

You will also need a cheap, $10 range WIRED keyboard and mouse, and an

optical (CD) drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151280

to install the operating system you choose (another $120 or so unless you can get pirated windows 7)

TOTAL cost of everything needed comes to $998, and this will easily last you for several years.

The keyboard and mouse HAS TO BE WIRED so you can setup the computer and install the operating system. Computers (motherboards) don't have stuff like wireless/bluetooth drivers preinstalled, these are installed onto the operating system within the hard drive.

Don't be intimidated by the prices of some of this stuff, later you could build a more powerful rig and use the same case, pick up another video card for SLI, and that hard drive can go into your next 20 years of computers. Keyboard/mouse and optical drive will also carry over to future computers as well as the monitor unless you desire 4k down the road.

Building a computer seems to cost a lot the first time, then in 4 years when you want to upgrade, you realize how much you collected that makes the next build easier.

As far as putting it all together, I recommend some good youtube videos out there to help guide you through things.. The CPU fan (processor heat sink) is the hardest part sometimes, everything else is plug into correct spot and wire management.

Hope this helps!

After reading your original post a few times I have realized your purpose... I could ship an old computer to you in pieces if you want and you can rebuild it. Its a pretty good computer too, but noone buys used computers anymore, its kind of like trying to sell used socks. send me a message if interested, if thats possible in this forum.

This system exceeds the $100 to $200 budget...

Thank you for the offer! However I just came to realize that building a custom PC is not so difficult, so I decided to skip that beginner part and started my actual PC! But thank you for your helpfulness.
