Here's my motherboard
ASRock 970 EXTREME4 AM3+
I'm running Window 7 as well.

I haven't been able to get my speakers or my headset to work at all...my older headset works but it runs thru USB. Not sure what's wrong. I have Realtek Sound Drivers installed and AMD audio installed. I tried to uninstall and reinstall and nothing.

How does it look inside Device Manager? Your sound driver isn't yellow, is it? If you go to MANAGE AUDIO DEVICES... do you have the correct device selected as the default? You should only use the AMD audio driver if you need sound played through your HDMI cable.. IF you don't use that.. then you should go to Device Manager and DISABLE it.

Yes it does... on your photo I see the Audio driver from your GPU and your Realtek...

Since it's there... go to Control Panel and Manage Audio Devices and for Playback.. select the device you're trying to hear sound from.

There is a 3rd Party Program that makes switching between speakers and headset very, very easy.. it's called SoundSwitch... you should give it a try... it might be what you're looking for to make things easier for you.

So when you click on the speaker's in your Realtek HD audio manager no sound plays?

It certainly looks setup right.

I would disconnect the headset while testing. Just plugging into the front ports may mute the rear connectors depending on your setup. Ensure that with the wired headset disconnected only the one green plug shows a connection.

If these are the latest drivers form the board makers website, realtek also has drivers you can try.

It may not hurt to show us your playback settings in Windows as well to be 100% sure nothing else is showing as the default playback device.

Try this:

Look at the bottom right of your screen for the volume control icon, right click it and choose playback devices. Look for the device you want to use (example speakers or headphones) right click it, and try enabling it

Your settings look ok. Realtek should control both front and rear ports on the computer.

When you disconnect the wired headset from the system, do the font port plugged in indicators go away?

With a audio cable or headset connected to the front port it looks like this. In this setup the speakers are muted.

With the audio cable disconnected from the front the speakers un-mute. Note the front green is now faded and showing disconnected

If for some reason your front port audio jacks are not working, they may show a connection when the wired headset is disconnected. So make sure they show as disconnected when you unplug them from the front.

Can you also see if the green audio indicator shows up when playing audio like in my images.

Well that would almost seen to be a driver issue(and that is strange since you have used the latest drivers).

When disconnecting your front port heatset the audio manager does show the headset being disconnected right?

If the asrock website has older drivers, maybe try that.
