So my laptop fell asleep and when I went to power it back on it wouldn't load. So after waiting for a while I did a hard shutdown. When I restarted it it went to the windows repair screen and after waiting for hours I decided to hard shutdown and just do a clean install.

However when creating a partition scheme I am unable to formathe the partition for windows. Partition 0 is the standard 100my system reserve and I can format that just fine. Partition 1 which is 100Gb I can not format. When I try it throws error 0x80070057. If I try to install to it, it says windows can't be installed and stops. The last partition is 10th (roughly) and I can format it and it works fine.

So I'm pretty sure the Hardo shutdowns have corrupted the partition in a read only state so I can't write to it. However using disk on my Linux I can create a new partition table and set a MBR even if I partition it on Linux it fails on Windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to be able to use those sectors of my hard drive.

***Edit***
***I also forgot to add that checks shows no errors or problems with the drive at all***

Solution
If you see a partition with 100MB in size, DO NOT FORMAT IT, It contains the boot files for windows.

Before doing these steps, you will lose data, so BACKUP anything you need first.

Go to startup or system repair at boot, open a command prompt and type these in

While in cmd type:
Diskpart
List disk
Select disk (# you want to partition)
clean

Now, all you need to do is boot using a windows 7 OS disk and install windows 7 on the disk you just cleaned (or erased) in diskpart
