I'm planning on upgrading from a 680 to a 980, but I'm not sure if it will be compatible with my ASrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3.

good luck I would research / google that around

these newer cards and older boards may not get fresh bios support to support each other -- theres was quite a few forums on this around the web

all I can say is look it all up and decide on that info I thought I had a thread from here at toms that had your board and the guy could not get things to work ????

seems you last bios update was way back -- 2.30 7/5/2012 -- that may not be so good

well good luck on that

I think I would do some hard looking before I spent $550 on that cause it known that with the z68 theres a chance it may not .

but if it does your good if not I guess you can get it refund ?? theres plenty of threads here on 900 cards not working on z68 boards

eaven this parsec guy warns about that here but as you can see he got a 970 to work on his

as like here the msi card did work as well so it can be from brand to brand on what they got in there v-bios on there cards ??

I did some googling before and didn't get a concrete answer. Worked for some, didn't work for others. I guess there isn't one.

ya, that's the thing - that's a lot of bucks on something unsure - if you look it seems like some may like it seemed good luck with the msi card but then is the cards v-bios the same as with the one you get today that works well ??

I don't know if its worth going to a best buy and let them put a card in for you ? it blows to do that and may cost more, but then if they cant get it to work then your not out anything but the time there just say thanks for trying move on , and if it was to work 100% fully just pay the man or at least its a local shop is you did have issues for them to look at and give a refund or something ??
