i7 3770K temp question?

I have a asus P8Z77 V pro MB and am using AI suite II for MB fans and temperature readings and also after burner for fan control of my GPU.
Now the AI suite II sensor show my CPU running idle at 16 degree's but on after burner is it double that?
Anyone know whats up with this?
which do i believe?

16 degs. C is a very cold temp for a CPU; idling or not! Verify this by using RealTemp, or HWInfo.

OK but what about the afterburner reading of 32 degree's ?
the only thing i did have running was windows defrag?

I also had this problem. On my mobo the AI SUITE 3 records idle temps accurately, however at temps with high loads it's up to 20C off!!

CoreTemp is very accurate, not AI suite.

I downloaded that "real temp" and i am having a hard time understanding reading it?
it is showing several temps at once?

Those are the multiple core temps. Since you have 4 cores, it should show up as 4 temperature indicators.

Yep. They all will generally say the exact same temp (or be 1-3C off). Unless you have one of those strange CPUs that one Core is 10C higher than the rest.

using CORE TEMP i see 50 51 43 48 for max and 30 29 29 36 for min temps?

Those temps are perfectly reasonable. If some cores are loaded higher than other cores could be the reason why the cores are at different temps.

Great and thanks! can i ask why i am only seeing 1.6ghz for my cpu on Core temp? it is a 3.5ghz i7?

Your CPU auto downclocks (Speedstep) when CPU loads are low to save energy. Normally all CPUs from intel downclock to a minimum of 768mhz.
