I have ASROCK P55 EXTREME motherboard with radeon 5770 GPU. When ever I try to boot the system everything but the GPU seems to receive power (I assume this because the fan doesn't spin.) Since the mobo relies on the GPU to provide a video output for the system this leaves me in the dark. any ideas of what is happening?

Solution
well if required be sure the pci-e lead from the power supply is plugged in or correctly plugged in to the card -- remove and reseat the card in its slot to insure it ''scratches in'' good contact with its golden fingers with the slot

Well, I tried looking around for a place that a plug could be plugged into but so far I haven't found anything. As far as properly seating the card, I followed you advice and made sure it was all the way in. Sadly that didn't work either. Could the card be dead or am I still doing something wrong?

not knowing your excat card brand and part number I cant know if the pci-e lead is required or not all I can do is guess at that

well if it don't need that power from the psu and just gets power from the slot 2 things the card maybe dead as you say or the slot is dead

unless you got another known working computer to test the card in to see or another known working card to test your boards slot all you can do is keep guessing ???

*sigh* Never mind, I found the plug. it was hidden in what I thought was an vent.
Thanks for the help! I hate it when I overlook the simplest of things.

Well..yes and no. It will boot up to the windows log in screen but after that it crashes. Most likely a problem with the hard drive. Best case scenario, it just needs to be reformatted. Worst case, its broken and needs to be replaced. Either way nothing I can't deal with.
