Hi
I'm looking to upgrade my PC with a new GPU and a new pair of 8GB DDR 3 sticks.

I'm not the most avid gamer anymore, But the new witcher 3 calls for an end to the hiatus :)

Also, I'm video editing and color grading in an Avid, Adobe and Resolve work-space.

I was thinking of the Gainward Phantom 4GB GTX 960.
But the 128 bit bus worries me - Should I worry or am I good for 1080P gaming and Light 4K grading ?

Also, My PC Build is an old timer, Please let me know if I'm really done for or will the DDR and GPU upgrade might do me well:

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GB
Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H

Thanks

The best GPU intended for 1080p gaming is right now the Nvidia GTX 970... Period. The GTX 960 as you pointed out has a 128-bit bus... and that will no doubt present a serious bottleneck in gaming. You could opt for the AMD cards but they are even worse as their VRAM is very slow. The only level-minded choice here is the GTX 970.

If you asked me, I would suggest you the ASUS STRIX GTX 970. Its not very long so will fit into most cases and it has a silent operating feature which makes the fans not kick in unless 50% of the GPU is being utilised.

Budget and PSU?
While I do agree mostly with the 970 recommendation, the maxwell architecture is efficient enough to run on the 128 bit interface without issue, so long as you do not get the 4GB model you mentioned (2GB only).

Given that, if budget dosent allow for a 970, the 290/290x is a decent follow up option for less.
