What's the bottleneck for 1024x768 gaming?

I want to play latest titles Assassins Creed Unity, far Cry 4 son of Rome GTA V etc

Solution
You can play them on max setting.Yea that 1280x720 is a bit better.Use MSAA ingames to stress GPU more and improve picture quality. If you see to much fps loss turn it off, but i think that 7850 can run all those game at 720p with MSAA x2 above or near 60 fps.

On that resolution your CPU will be at 100% most of the time and GPU will be 50% or lower.Get 1080p monitor to enjoy games on that PC. 1024x768 monitor is just to old for today standards, even phones have much higher resolution.

so you mean that the Monitor is the Bottleneck?

my brother had a 17" DELL LCD screen having 1280x720, will that be fine for me?

Because i cannot play any game on max? Assassins Creed Unity (on everything maxed except v-sync off) sometimes runs flawless and smooth , sometimes even at lowest settings, It is unplayable?

overclock your cpu & gpu it`s free

the q6600 at stock clocks is kinda slow, you need to get it to at least 3ghz to play gta5 or far cry4 smoothly,
10-15% of overclock on gpu clock $ memory will do it,

I have a q8400 at 3.2ghz and r9 270x overclocked 15% (almost the same build as yours)

and i can play gta5&far cry4 on 40+fps at 1680*1050 with high settings except for the shadow quality, postFX and particle on medium
you might need msi afterburn to cap the fps at 35-40-45,
With vertical sync the fps fluctuate a lot between 20-60, it can make the game stutter

tldr a core2quad with frequency lower than 3ghz will be a bottleneck
at 3.2ghz it`s on par with an i3 4130
