My computer can connect to the internet, but can't display any websites. I even reset the computer to factory settings.

I've tried everything. I've went into the CMD and did comand promps and ipconfig stuff, I've reset everything, and yet still, after working for days on this, my computer can't do anything at all online. I'm completely connected to the internet, but it just won't do anything online. I have no idea how to fix this. If you suggest something, I'll tell you if I've already tried it and get back to you. If not, please suggest solutions! Thank you!

When you say that you reset your computer to factory settings, did you delete your partitions, and reinstall a fresh Copy of your Operating system? If you did not, you might want to make sure no Malware is present.

I usually recommend using the following guide which is relatively thorough:

If you are still not able to browse while in Safe mode with Networking, you can download the programs on another computer, and simply transfer the installation files via a USB or Flash drive.

Please also ensure that you are not using a proxy server before exiting Safe Mode with Networking.
To do so:

In internet explorer: Click Options (little gear) > Internet Options > Connections...

Hi Nazev,

Can you please give me a little bit of information concerning your setup?

1) Are you using a desktop or laptop.
2) Are you connected directly into a modem/router?
3) What Operating system are you running?
4) Are other devices in your household able to connect to the internet?
5) What message/error message are you seeing when you are opening your default browser?
6) Are you pulling a valid IP address?
7) Is your Default Gateway correct?

1. Desktop
2. I'm connected to a router
3. Windows 8.1 64 bit
4. Yes, all other devices can connect
5. I was using Google Chrome at first, and it said something like ERROR_DNS and then a few other words, but since I have restarted my computer, I no longer have Google Chrome. All Internet Explorer says is "This page can't be displayed" after waiting for the page for a few seconds.
6. I have no idea how to check this
7. I also have no idea how to check this...sorry!

Thanks you so much for the quick response, and sorry I took so long to reply back! I hope this helps!

The ipv4 address is: 10.0.0.9 (preferred)

The default gateway is: fe80::c639:3aff:fe25:c312%3
10.0.0.1

Edit: Alright, I finished that, and now I have YouTube, Google, and other Google websites running, however no other websites out of Google's DNS are working (which was to be expected). We are one step closer! Thanks!

What next?

Edit 2: I left to run some errands and came back and Google, Youtube, and other Google websites are no longer running. It's back to the way it was, and ever after I tried running through the DNS steps in that video again it still won't do anything.

To do so:

In internet explorer: Click Options (little gear) > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > Please ensure that ONLY 'Automatically detect settings' is checked > Apply > OK.

Set your DNS back to default if you have not already done so after having performed the aforementioned scans.
