How to log into my router... I can from lap top buy not my Desk top...

I have upgraded my router to Asus RT-AC87U.... I was not able to log into the router from my computer so I tried using my Lab top to see if it was the router or the computer. From my Lab Top I got right in and updated the firmware on the router and set the network up. Router works great. I am on the internet with my desk top (main computer) but still can not log into my router with it. What setting on the Desk top do I need to change?

When I put 192.168.1.1 it just sits there and thinks... I even tried changing the router to 192.168.5.1 using the labtop thinking maybe there was a conflict from the old router.

I can't visualize any reason why that should not work.
Wired directly into the router, entering the correct IP address for the router admin function....it should work.
