I replaced my stock fan for i5 3570k with an evo 212 hyper, my idle temps did not change. I then overclocked to 4.2Ghz and max temp is about 64c- 70c after gaming, have I fitted it properly? I only ask because I read reviews of people seeing the idle temp drop after installation. I know idle temp means nothing but I just want to know if I fitted the Evo right. Thanks

Solution
That sounds like very normal performance, even good. Idle temp is rather meaningless unless it is very high, but even then if you have high ambients it's going to be high.

The 212 Evo is very overhyped, and OC'd i5 can run much hotter than that, so I wouldn't worry.

your temps are fine, i would say that some better case flow could help temps a little also.

and dont listen to damric you bought one of the best CPU coolers for the price on the market today and is leaps and bounds better than any stock cooler. I run my i5 2500k up to 4.9GHz on a hyper 212 and have to say it performs very well.

there are maybe 2 other coolers that are as good as the 212 for the price.

I forgot to mention I have just overclocked with auto on my MSI mobo and realise doing it properly will also bring the temps down, I'm a newbie :) I just heard of idle temps at 15c, mine are about 40c and was worried I did not install the cooler properly. It is a great cooler I bought it for £23.00 free delivery!

you could get those idle temps if your house is 10C. idle temps should only be looked at as how much hotter is your CPU running as compared to what your house temps are.

my house temps is 24C and my CPU is at 25C for example. I just checked.

Thanks for the reply, I think it's fine because without OC it runs idle at about 30c, with OC its about 40c which sounds right, thanks for the advice :)

Cooler Master called it the Hyper 212 before I did :D

Anyways, nothing wrong with the 212. Heck I had one before and used it for the 5.3GHz validation in my sig. The only issue is when people get unreasonable expectations, and those are fueled by fervent hype across the internet.
