My first C:/ started to die, so I sought to replace it. It was a part of a build I've had for ~3 years that sports two HDD, so I decided to upgrade all my HDD. I upgraded the drive that would hold my OS to WD Blue, and my 3TB HDD that held my games would be replaced by a Seagate 2TB SSHD.

I was able to replace the WD Blue HDD containing the OS with no problem. I went into the BIOS, changed the load order, and their was no problem with the OS booting up. Upon installing the new SSHD, when I power on the system the POST is successful however I get the disk boot failure error. I checked the BIOS to ensure the right drive was being loaded first and I even switched the cables to check if the cables were master/slave and causing my issue. Nothing seemed to work, so I reinstalled my old 3TB HDD containing just my games, and it loaded fine.

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out where I went wrong.

MOBO: GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0)
CPU: i7-980
Config: SATA II

Bouns: Do I need special cables to it SATA III going? My mobo is capable and so are is the new HDD and SSHD.

Solution
When you first installed the OS, you had the 3TB drive connected as well?
That drive contains the System Reserved boot partition.

Without that partition (or drive), no boot for you.

Maybe this:
Disconnect all other drives except what holds the OS
Boot from your Windows install media, and go through the Repair function.

This may or may not work.

Problem may be, that your PC can't decide where you want to boot from, i had same problem after installing SSD in addition to HDD on my laptop, solution was pretty simple:
In command prompt try entering following commands:
diskpart
list disk
select disk x (x is disk your OS is currently on)
list partition
select partition x (x is partition your OS is on)
active
exit
