I'm looking to upgrade my pc, I already have 2X4 DDR3 1866 ram stick. If I get a h97 mobo, can i upgrade it with another 2X4 DDR3 1866 ram stick for 16 G of memory ?
it wont work if its only rated for the two sticks and look to see what its rated to. for example i can handle two sets of ram but only up to 16 gb of ram so 32 would be usless and a waist of my money. Make shore its ddr3 Ir ddr4 before you buy them they are very diffrent and will not work
Not something I've ever tried, but it would be worth a punt, and if it works, the system is likely to downclock to the lowest common denominator. 4 x 4 DDR3 1866 Mhz is a viable memory configuration and many 97 boards have the 4 slots.

True he could do this but if hes on a budget or doesnt want to waste money i recommend that he just stick to what his specs are and what his mobo can handle.
The OP can always XMP the memory to match the timings and underclock to tighten the secondary timings. Getting to CL8 (or 7) is worth something, and I'd rather match as closely as possible, or am I misunderstanding the OP's question? (they have 2 x 4 and want to add different 2 x 4)
