All of sudden out of nowhere while playing GTA5 my PC started to crash with artifacts covering the screen.
No hardware, setting, driver changes.
It seemed something specific was causing it as it mostly happened upon opening the map or after dying and appearing at the hospital.
I could be driving around fast causing havoc with smooth fps without any crashing, open the map - crash.
The issue isn't GTA related, later turned out it happens with other games like FarCry 4 and Skyrim with an enb mod.(took longer for it to crash) Same with Heaven Benchmark 4.0. (75 degree temp at full load)
Didn't crash on CoD4.

The artifacts differ each time but follow the same pattern of multi color check board. Once it was a single purple pixel.
After few seconds it turns to blue screen. Sorry for bad image quality, if needed I can try to get better pics.

It must be a safe bet it's the GPU at fault?
Tried underclocking GPU clock and Memory clock a bit with Palit's ThunderStorm without success. Maybe I should've set the values lower.
Even If I can fix this with downclocking I should still RMA it, it would suck to play with decreased performance.
Though RMA would be a huge hassle.
Messaged scan.co.uk right after the first crash, didn't really apply for an RMA, just asked how would the process go about as I've left the UK since I bought the card. I though maybe it's just GTA5 at that point.
Haven't received a response from them yet.
Must still be under warranty, it will be two years since I bought it on novermber.

What could you recommend for troubleshooting?
This is a huge bummer, GTA5 is so fun but now I can't enjoy it constantly fearing a crash.
I'd highly appreciate any help.

I recently oc'd for the first time, and although I did not get blue screens, it sounds like you are having issues with your OC in it's current state. I too, passed benchmark tests, but crashed during gameplay. I'd suggest toning things down a bit with the OC.

I haven't overclocked the card myself, it's a factory OC which should be stable, otherwise it's a scam.
I've played games with the stock setting with no issues before. So the issue isn't simply OC.

I'll try underclocking it again. I'd welcome some suggestions of optimal values.

Didn't realize you were underclocking, sorry. You shouldn't have to underclock though, factory settings should be fine. In the past, I've had similar issues due to the seating of the card in my MB, try re-seating it. Also make sure the fan is running properly under load/at higher temps. Doesn't sound like it's a temp issue but I had dust clogging mine causing intermittent failures.
